Spain's e-invoicing mandate: what changes and how to prepare

Spain is moving to mandatory e-invoicing between businesses and self-employed workers (the Crea y Crece law) and to verifiable invoicing systems (Verifactu). Here is what that means and where the paper you still receive fits in.

The Crea y Crece law

The law requires invoices between businesses and self-employed workers to be issued and received in a structured electronic format, phased in by company size. The dates depend on implementing regulations, so confirm them with your accountant.

Verifactu

Verifactu requires invoicing software to guarantee the integrity and traceability of records and to be able to send them to the Spanish tax agency. It affects the software you invoice with, not how you receive your mail.

What about paper invoices that keep arriving?

During the transition you will still receive invoices, notices and documents on paper. Spanish Mailbox scans them, extracts the data and delivers them digitally so your whole incoming flow lives in one place.

Frequently asked questions

Does Spanish Mailbox issue e-invoices for me?

No, we are not invoicing software. We digitise the mail and paper invoices you receive.

When does it become mandatory?

The timeline has been postponed several times and depends on company size. Check the official Spanish tax agency information or ask your accountant.

How much does it cost?

No monthly fee: €4 per scanned letter, €20 per parcel received and €35 for very heavy parcels one person cannot carry alone. If we forward something, you also pay the actual shipping cost.
