What is a burofax and when do you need one?

A burofax is a Correos service for sending communications that serve as evidence: it proves what was sent, when and whether it arrived. It is used for complaints, contract terminations, payment demands and any notice that could end up in court.

Burofax vs certified letter

A certified letter proves you sent something and, with a delivery receipt, that it arrived. A burofax with content certification also proves what the document said, because Correos keeps a stamped copy.

The options

Content certification: Correos certifies the text. Delivery receipt: you get signed confirmation of delivery. Certified copy: you receive a stamped copy of the document. For claims, the first two are usually combined.

What if nobody collects it?

If the recipient is not in, Correos leaves a notice. If it is never collected, the burofax is returned, but the delivery attempt is recorded, which in many cases has legal effect.
